The CYS Services Technology Center is located in the Alan A. Nord Youth Services Center. The Technology Center is open to CYS Services Members between the ages of 6 and 18. CYS Services Technology Center hours of operation are 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 pm. on Saturdays during the Las Cruces Public School year and 1:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. during the summer.
Workstations are equipped with high speed Internet connections along with the Internet filter CYBERsitter. The CYS Services Technology Center is monitored and is equipped with all the software needed for homework assistance and playing games. Each computer station has headphones, a DVD/CD-ROM drive and USB port compatibility for the purpose of connecting digital devices such as digital cameras. We have a large table in the center of the lab for child initiated discussions and project construction.
With computer technology as a strong foundation, we have developed a wide range of specialized programs that utilize not only the technology available at the Technology Center, but also the imagination and intellect of the youth who participate. Our computer programs not only incorporate learning the steps involved in understanding these state of the art programs, but we also guide students in the development of their own works of art. Consequently, the children will be able to produce something that they can take pride in while learning essential life skills. We have in-lab projects and field trips to plant the seeds of imagination and creativity.
Each child must have a current parent permission form before using the computers. Technology lab instructors and/or trained staff are designated to coordinate and facilitate the operations in the Technology Center.
Power Hour: Power Hour is the Boys & Girls Clubs of America homework center component of Child, Youth & School Services. Power Hour is open Monday-Friday, 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Child & Youth Services Technology Center and is open to anyone between the ages of 6 and 18, who are currently registered with CYS
